Mother Plant Compressor’s (Turbine’s)

Mother Plant Compressor’s (Turbine’s)

In mother plant the compressors are basically rotary (Centrifugal, axial). MAN Turbo and Nuovo Pignone are connected in series with HP & LP centrifugal compressors. HP and LP compressors can be easily differentiated physically by their designs which are enlisted below:

  1. 2MCL type compressors
  2. 2BCL type compressors
  3. Axial Compressors
  4. 2MCL Compressors

The Nuovo Pignone centrifugal compressors are designated by a series of capital letters and numbers.

The capital letters describe the casing features; MCL indicates a compressor with the casing in two halves horizontally.

The numbers, after the letters, describe the compressor nominal “size”, and the impellers number.

If the compressor has two back to back compression stages the designation is preceded from the number 2.

The compressor type 2MCL, though it consists of single casing, is featured by two stages. In fact the gas comes out and it passes through a cooler, it is again sucked and it is brought to the discharge conditions by the remaining impellers.

The compressor essentially consists of a static unit (Casing, diaphragm, seals, bearings and covers) and a moving unit (rotor formed by shaft, impellers and balance drum).

The suction and discharge flanges of the compressor are turned upward.

The centrifugal compressor 2MCL606 with 2 compression stages and nominal size of 600 mm has a shaft with 6 impellers.

3 impellers are utilized for the 1st stage and 3 for the 2nd stage.

2.2BCL Compressor

The Nuovo Pignone centrifugal compressors are designated by a series of capital letters and numbers.

The capital letters describe the casing features; BCL indicates a compressor with the vertically split casing. (Barrel shaped casing type)

The numbers, after the letters, describe the compressor nominal “size”, and the impellers number.

If the compressor has two back to back compression stages the designation is preceded from the number 2.

The compressor type 2BCL, though it consists of single casing, is featured by two stages.

The centrifugal compressor 2BCL358 with 2 compression stages and nominal size of 350 mm has a shaft with 8 impellers.

4 impellers are utilized for the 1st stage and 4 for the 2nd stage.
